WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?
Last time, we talked about trusting God with ALL OF YOUR HEART! The broken parts. The ugly parts and even the parts you’re ashamed of. (If you didn’t get a chance to read it, go back and do so because it’s going to lead us into today.)
So…let’s say you’re ready to TRUST GOD with ALL OF YOUR HEART. You’ve made a decision that you’re going to give Him ALL OF IT. No holding back. You’re finally ready to let GOD into the secrets of your heart. But right before you SURRENDER ALL….fear tries to stop you.
BUT WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?
Are you afraid of the unknown? And whether or not you’re ready for it?
Are you afraid of hearing God’s voice? And what He has to say?
Are you afraid of walking into your future? And what that might cost you?
Fear is so subtle. You can be oppressed by it and not even realize it. In essence, fear can become so embedded into your personality that it feels normal - like it’s just YOU.
Transparent Moment: Growing up, I can recall being so insecure at school.
People would just be talking around me & I would fear they were talking about me.
People would be laughing & I thought the laughter was directed toward me.
And while in some cases it was lol
My point is, insecurity kept me constantly on eggshells.
But what was I afraid of? I was afraid of being hurt in a social situation again.
And most insecurities are just like that. They are rooted in fear or some past traumatic experience that was never properly dealt with.
Be Honest: Have you ever noticed any ounce of insecurity in your life? If so, you may want to ask yourself these questions:
What happened to make me so fearful?
Why is this an insecurity?
What am I afraid of?
Fear can disguise itself to be protective and comfortable. So coping with your fears can seem a lot easier than actually conquering them and rising to new levels in your relationship with God.
BUT WARNING! While your fears may seem like great defense mechanisms at first - THEY WILL TURN ON YOU. They are backstabbers. That’s what they do. Fear cannot protect you or save you. Fear is a trap (See Proverbs 29:25). And if you allow it to stay, FEAR WILL HINDER YOUR TRUST IN GOD EVERY TIME. It will prevent you from even encountering Him because anyone who wants to come to Him or Encounter Him must believe and trust Him (Read Hebrews 11:6).
Trusting God is like a little child jumping into the arms of their father believing that he will catch them.
Funny Story about that >>>
When I was a child, my father used to do this with me all the time. I would jump off of the washer machine and he would catch me. I HAD NO FEAR…because he always caught me whenever I jumped. I could trust him because he never gave me a reason not to. But one time, I jumped how I normally would and I almost got dropped! From that point on, I was hesitant to jump again because my trust wasn’t as strong as it was before.
And isn’t that just how life is? We all go through different life experiences that can weaken our TRUST gradually. Now, we may be hesitant with who to give our trust to. We may find it hard to trust people, who are flawed, but then when it comes to God, who is totally perfect and flawless, we treat Him the same way. But we have to remember: GOD IS NOT LIKE PEOPLE. He has given you no reason to fear. If anything, He’s given you every reason to trust Him!
True Story: For a long time, I was really afraid of praying to God and tapping deeper into the supernatural world because I thought “New Levels…New Devils". I was even afraid of walking further into my destiny because I thought I would receive backlash from the enemy.
While the enemy’s main goal is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10) - I came to realize that I was trusting more in the enemy’s plan than in God’s plan for my life. And that’s what fear really is - placing your trust in the wrong source.
1 John 4:18 says, “There is NO FEAR in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love [turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear [brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love’s complete perfection].”
SO FEAR IS FOREIGN TO GOD’S LOVE. Fear does not even exist in His world. If we are afraid, it’s because we’re not familiar with his world yet! We have not grown fully into His perfect love. And that’s okay that we’re not there yet because this is a process.
BUT YOU CAN’T STAY THERE FOREVER!
You can’t keep putting up your walls of fear.
Walls block God’s love from coming in & flowing out.
You have to let God be your Refuge. You can’t protect yourself.
God is our only True Defense & Protection. He can be trusted (Psalm 91:2). And Only His perfect love has the POWER to turn fear out of the doors of your heart & expel every trace of terror from your life <3
When I began to come to this realization of God’s Love, I realized that no demon in hell can keep me out of the Presence of God or stop me from reaching the destiny God has for me. Because God is with me - and if GOD BE FOR US, WHO CAN BE AGAINST US?!?
SO WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?
Whatever it is…don’t allow it to keep you from reaching your New Place in God.
Don’t allow it to keep you from getting in a place where you can hear from Him.
And most certainly don’t allow it to keep you from walking into your God-ordained Destiny!
It’s time to TRUST GOD with all of your heart. NO FEAR ALLOWED!
While it can seem a little frightening at first, YOU HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE. That’s what I did. I started allowing God to perfect me in His Love and to this day, He still is! There will always be more areas that we need to surrender to Him but as we continue to seek Him in prayer and yield to Him, our Final Testimony should be as King David’s:
I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears! (Psalm 34:4)
